This Tawny Owl Box is constructed from exterior grade 12mm bonded plywood which has been treated with a two coat water based resin. Handmade in our own workshops to RSPB specifications, it is designed to provide the perfect owl nesting box whilst also being resistant to the harshest of weather conditions. This Tawny Owl Box has a lockable inspection/cleaning hatch for easy access and a detachable perch.
The Tawny Owl Box will arrive complete with pre-installed colour camera connected to your selected cable length making it very easy for you to set up to your TV. Optional PC/MAC connectivity and other accessories are available.
 
Tawny Owl Nesting
Tawny owls are the classic brown woodland owls about the size of a pigeon that make the characteristic owl hoot. They readily occupy large gardens with trees. They have a wide diet and will eat almost anything from worms to rabbits.
The tawny owl has a rounded body and head, with a ring of dark feathers around its face surrounding the dark eyes. It is mainly reddish brown above and paler underneath. It is a widespread breeding species in England, Wales and Scotland but not found in Ireland. Birds are mainly residents with established pairs probably never leaving their territories. Young birds disperse from breeding grounds in autumn. The tawny owl is nocturnal so it is often heard calling at night, but much less often seen. 
Tawny owl chicks start to explore their surroundings well before fledging, and so the box needs to have a perch and/or nearby branches they can climb on.

The Camera
 
This CCD Ultra High Resolution700TVL (TV Line) Camera has been designed specifically for use with Gardenature camera nest boxes and bird feeder camera kits. This colour bird box camera has a light sensor that switches the x10 infrared night vision LEDs on/off supplementing loss of natural light levels with an invisible IR (infrared). This bird box camera produces high resolution colour images in full light of day and sharp black and white images in low or even no light levels. The camera also houses a highly sensitive microphone so you can hear as well as see what's going on. This high tech spy camera has a 3.6mm lens which produces a 92 degree viewing angle. The lens will have been pre-focused to the correct position but it can very easily be adjusted to suit alternative applications.
 
The Rest of the System
A professional x3 core cable (Audio/Video/12vDC) is already connected to the camera in the roof of the nest box, the other end of the cable needs to be routed into your property. The cable plugs are black, yellow and white. The black is for mains power and connects to the (supplied)12V DC power adaptor / plug. The remaining RCA yellow (video) and white (audio) connectors can either plug into a spare AV/AUX socket on your TV, / DVD recorder, or a spare TV scart input using the (supplied) scart adaptor. Switch on at the mains plug, then select the appropriate AV channel on your TV, sit back and wait for the show to start! All very easy but if you need any help we are just a phone call away.
